Top Dogs of the 2011-2012 TV season (Part 5)

Ready, set...play!

Over the last four days we have presented you with four amazing TV dogs that we fell in love with during the past TV season. It is now time to share with our ultimate favourite and top dog of the 2011-2012 season!

1. 'Sammy' from Revenge, season 1

Sammy with his current owner Jack and the show's protagonist and Emily

Newcomer Sammy is our pick for the No.1 spot and it wasn't an easy choice! This modern tale of revenge (duh) inspired by Alexandre Dumas' famous 'The Count of Monte Cristo',
follows Amanda Clarke as she returns to The Hamptons under the name of Emily Throne to punish those who wronged her father.

As a young girl, she had a Yellow Labrador called Sammy. When she was forced to leave The Hamptons she gave him to her best friend Jack to look after. Now that she is back, her friend doesn't recognize her but his dog does and takes an instant liking to her.

We love how Sammy is the main character's link to her past and how he keeps returning to her childhood home which she has repurchased under her new alias. He is extremely well integrated into the plot which is a rarity in TV shows. Could Revenge work without the dog? Sure. But you would miss out on some very beautiful scenes and he does have a paw in bringing Jack and Emily together over and over again.

Sammy gets some love
If you do the math, you will realise Sammy is a very exceptional dog since he should be 17 years old! But since the world's oldest dog died last year in Japan at the ripe old age of 26, we will allow that Sammy could in theory make it to 17.

For playing an important role very well and making us sniffle, Sammy walks away today with the 2011-2012 TV Top Dog title from us!

As the fall season kicks in, we will make sure to keep an eye out for new talent and returning favourites so watch this space!

What did you think of our Top 5? Did your favourites make the cut? If not who would you pick? We'd love to read your thoughts in our comments!
